📐 Flooring Calculation Guide

Basic Area Formula

Floor Area (m²) = Length × Width With wastage: Order Area = Floor Area × (1 + Wastage %) Number of Tiles = Order Area / (Tile L × Tile W) Number of Boxes = Ceil(Tiles / Tiles per Box) Example: 5m × 4m room, 600×600mm tiles, 10% waste Floor Area = 5 × 4 = 20 m² Order Area = 20 × 1.10 = 22 m² Tile Area = 0.6 × 0.6 = 0.36 m² No. of Tiles = 22 / 0.36 = 61.1 → 62 tiles Boxes (4/box)= Ceil(62/4) = 16 boxes

Wastage Guide by Pattern

Straight / Grid: 5–10% wastage Offset (brick): 10% Herringbone: 10–15% Diagonal (45°): 15–20% Complex shapes: 15–25% Wood / Laminate (straight run): 7–10% Wood / Laminate (herringbone): 15% Carpet (no seams): 5–8% Carpet (with seams): 10–15% Always round UP to the nearest full box. Never order the exact amount — cuts waste tiles and you need extras for future repairs.

Grout Calculation (for tiles)

Grout needed (kg) = Area × 1.5 × GroutWidth(mm) × (TileL + TileW) / (TileL × TileW × 1000) Rule of thumb: 3mm joints, 600×600mm tile: ~0.4 kg/m² 5mm joints, 300×300mm tile: ~1.1 kg/m² 10mm joints, 200×200mm tile: ~3.5 kg/m² Standard 5kg grout bag covers: 600mm tiles (3mm joint): ~12 m² 300mm tiles (5mm joint): ~4.5 m²
