The reason for the logarithmic curve is straightforward once you understand how dogs actually develop. Dogs don't age at a constant rate. They age explosively in their first year — compressing what takes a human three decades into twelve months — and then the aging rate slows substantially. A one-year-old dog is sexually mature, fully grown, and has a complete set of adult teeth. By any biological measure, that dog is not equivalent to a seven-year-old child. Why Dogs Age So Rapidly in the First Two Years

- Puppy (0–1 year, ~0–31 human years): The most critical window for long-term health and behaviour.
